Yin Yoga in the current sense is a relatively new practice. The base of it however is derived from very old traditions from Taoism, TCM and Hatha Yoga. It is practice that actively seeks out to give us time to wind down, do be passive in the classic sense and look within. From a physiological perspective we are looking to work our connective tissue rather then musculature. Yin Yoga seeks to be complementing our Yang aspects of live, be that a strong Yoga practice or other physical activities. This practice teaches us to strive for balance between opposing forces; activity & passivity, sound & silence, light & dark, sadness & happiness. From a physiological perspective we are exploring to directly work with our connective tissue like fascia to release tensions, blockages to help promote well being.

Alignment based yoga focuses on positioning our body biochemically sensible during Asana practice. During such a class you will hear many ques around where to place one part of your body in respect to another one. You will learn muscle engagement in order to protect your joints, transmit the load of your body most efficiently and pretty much nerd out a little on the details of different yoga poses. Alignment classes are often a great supplement to more flow-based classes in which the context doesn’t allow for pose details.
